Cramping - the most evident of all symptoms - is in fact not in and of itself PMS. It is one of the possible events of PMS. PMS refers to a series of unpleasant effects which happen just prior to the onset of the monthly flow.
Primary Menstrual Cramps are caused by chemicals called prostaglandins (PGE2 & PGF1 &2). They are manufactured in your body from arachidonic acid, which is found in high amounts in Margarine and other "trans" fats Animal Fats.
The prostaglandin PGE1, on the other hand, reduces smooth muscle contractions (like the uterus) and even lowers cholesterol. PGE1 prostaglandins are manufactured in the body from essential fatty acids (EFAs) in vegetable oils, notably, flax seed oil and or flax seed meal. Or, they can be taken in supplemental form as primrose or borage oil capsules.
Good luck me
