moral of the toon

I watched Fairly Odd Parents the other day with my daughter.

The episode was about Timmy Turner being ignored and unwanted by everybody, to such an extent that they'd rather be with a rock than with him. When he couldn't take it anymore, he wished to be the 'most wanted kid' from his Fairy Godparents, which of course was instantly granted. Next day, people started fighting over him. He was picked first in everything: as a lab partner, as a team mate, as a friend, as a master (of other fairies as well). He was pleased as punch to be wanted and chased by girls.

Then came the plot twist when the police and FBI came knocking on his door, announcing that he was under arrest for being the 'most wanted kid.'

So you can imagine how much work it was to clean up that mess. All ended well though as he got to reverse his wish.

There's a lesson here though...

"Attention is much like love... Everybody needs it, but not from everybody."

another day

Another Day [by Nine Days]

Here's another day,
she waits and pulls herself away
at just the right moment to save her face

I watch the time go ticking down,
the waters falling on the ground
I catch myself and try to speak with grace

you needed just enough anger,
to get you through the door
and you got just enough honesty,
to make you want a little more

I wish for nothing but the rain,
to fall and wash away
everything that I've done wrong,
find a way to make you strong
if only for another day

when I'm all alone,
just me and my ghosts
standing three deep,
just like sentries at their post

they make sure I remember,
just a little more than most
they make sure that I understand the consequence of past

when you see me chasing daydreams
and you know that I'm not there
I'm not the one who sits across from you,
who, returns your stare

and I watch as you grow quiet like you always did
and I wait to get what I deserve
its the part that doesn't die that makes it hurt...

I wish for nothing but the rain,
to fall and wash away
everything that I've done wrong,
find a way to make you strong
if only for another day

In the meantime

"In the meantime"

I have come to believe that there is such a thing as knowing that what you have or what you are cannot last forever. And this is where the line, "in the meantime" comes in. It is widely used and fairly simple to understand. Usually it is used to indicate that an occurence or object or even person is in a state that is passing, temporary, limited, and generally unstable. Like a pit-stop in a train ride or a time-out during a game, it's a stop-over, a pause, a moratorium in this trip called life.

It's like knowing that whatever it is, is just for now. It's not permanent. It won't last.

My thought on this though would be that although this term is otherwise essential in differentiating what is relatively permanent and what is not ...

the reality is that everything is just "in the meantime."

sometimes

i'm supposed to be busy, but well...

sometimes
there seems to be a way
but sometimes
there is nowhere to go

sometimes i lose myself
lose myself in your arms
and sometimes i find myself
find myself alone

once there was
passion
once there was
refuge
once there was
more than what there was supposed to be

but that was once
and that turn has ended

perhaps that once
that we once thought would never end
tired itself over and over again

when neither one could stand
what it is to be together yet apart at the same time

when doubts would sprout
like mushrooms in the dew

and hurt would flow
like the river we never knew

the river we've kept hidden for so long
because we wanted to be together
despite the ripples that tore our hearts apart

but the time has come
and the time has gone
and there is nothing left for us
but the scars we made each other endure
and the wounds i have carved on your soul

sometimes the temperature of the heart
rises and falls with what goes around
sadness, happiness
sometimes are but feelings unbound

and for the times they are
they become the shadow of the soul
but just as the sun comes down
and the shadow changes form
so will the temperature of the heart
rise and fall

there would be none like
what we had
none before and none after
there would be none like
what we had
none like what we had borrowed

all this was borrowed
and all this has to be returned
you to yourself
and me to my tomb

It's time to say goodbye

Goodbye [by The Corrs]

I never thought one day you'd be gone,
away forever more
No one can say,
no one could explain
why you were taken

Oh where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?

It's time to say goodbye
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking why

Tell me it's true,
tell me there's something more
Another time for love
One day I'll know, one day I'll be there
Will you be waiting?

Oh where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?

It's time to say goodbye
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking why
Try to stop asking why... yeah...

Where are you now?
Could I get there somehow?

It's time to say goodbye
Block out the sun and pack up the sky
Don't let my tears start to make you cry
Each time I try to say my goodbye
Try to stop asking why, why
Try to say my goodbye
